Hauser & Wirth Publishers, MACK, and SPBH Editions are pleased to present a day of experimental performance and film, from artists including Teju Cole, Carmen Winant, Stephen Shore, Justine Kurland, RaMell Ross, and Vince Aletti. This programme will activate the gallery, auditorium, and bookshop of Hauser & Wirth’s 18th Street.
A selection of artists curated by MACK and SPBH Editions will participate in a series of twenty-minute performances from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. These will follow a variety of formats from soundscapes to performance, correlating with each artist's respective practice. Following each there will be a book signing onsite in the gallery's Roth Bar. In tandem with the performance series, we will have multiple screenings of rare films including the debut feature film by Richard Billingham, two studies of the work of Donald Judd, and a selection of Queer shorts curated by Sam Ashby.

Stephen Shore presents a photographic performance of unedited works he created over the course of one day in Winslow, Arizona, for Doug Aitken’s 'Station to Station'.

Capacitor is an original video work (6 min) followed by a conversation with the audience.
1.30pm Keisha Scarville: Meditations From the Threshold
Meditations From the Threshold is a slideshow and spoken piece that explores the aesthetics of latency, and the ecosystems within which Scarville’s latest book is imagined.
2pm Catherine Taylor & Nicholas Muellner: We Feel For You
The authors recombine their existing texts and images into a new dialogue where crosstalk makes a monologue exploring the place, and voice, of feeling.
2.30pm Vince Aletti: The Drawer Remix
Working with a box the size of the original cabinet drawer, Aletti changes arrangements of printed ephemera until he's satisfied with the layered results, then moves on to as many set-ups as he can make within the allotted time.
3pm RaMell Ross: The Black Dictionary
RaMell Ross takes us on a sonic journey from Rhode Island to Alabama, inspired by Henry Box Brown.
3.30pm Justine Kurland: Other Mother
Justine Kurland pays homage to those artists who have collectively expanded our notion of what motherhood looks like.
4pm Carmen Winant: Care Visuality
This experimental lecture will prompt: what is the visuality of abortion care? And how might its representation be used as a tool in the struggle?
4.30pm Charlie Engman: Hello Chaos!
A performance that engages audience participation to navigate the chaotic pursuit of visibility and connection in the digital age.
Film Screenings (Auditorium)
12pm Richard Billingham: Ray & Liz (2018, 108 minutes)
Billingham’s feature-film debut is an unsettling family portrait set in Thatcher-era Britain, coinciding with the reissue of his book Ray’s a Laugh.
2pm Alessandra Sanguinetti: Argentinian Shorts (6 minutes, on loop)
A selection of film shorts created in Argentina throughout the making of Sanguinetti's remarkable photographic series ’The Adventures of Guille and Belinda'.
2.30pm Donald Judd: Selected Films (60 minutes)
An exciting opportunity to watch two rare films offering an insight into the key ideas, concepts, and spaces surrounding Judd’s inimitable practice.
3.30pm Little Joe Presents (30 minutes)
Sam Ashby, founder of the cult queer film zine Little Joe, will showcase a selection of rare short films from the publication's archive.
4pm Joseph Desler Costa: Dream Date (8 minutes, on loop)
Dream Date is a meditation on love, where visual languages collide with disparate texts sourced from twitter, advertising, cinema and the artist's own writings.
